The CPCS Telescopic Handler (A17) course is run in our Walsall, West Midlands training centre. The course teaches the relevant operational and safety requirements and skills telescopic handlers need to know. Successful completion of this course will earn you your red CPCS trained operator card.
On successful completion of this CPCS Dumper course, you will have the knowledge and skills to operate a forward tipping dumper safely.
We offer two types of courses:
- CPCS Telescopic Handler course (A17) C: All Sizes ex. Slew – Foundation (4 day course)
- CPCS Telescopic Handler course (A17) C: All Sizes ex. Slew – Experienced (2 day course)
What qualification will I get on the CPCS Forward Tipping Dumper course?
- CPCS Trained Operator Card (red card) on passing the CPCS technical tests.
- CITB National Construction College e-certificate, available on request from CITB.
CPCS Telescopic Handler course (A17) in West Midlands
Knowledge and Skills covered in the CPCS Telescopic Handler course (A17) course will include:
- Health & Safety when operating
- Pre-use checks of the plant equipment
- How to use the different machine controls
- How to manoeuvre
- Lifting and carrying loads
- Operating techniques
- Maintenance and checks for the telehandler
Course Duration
West Midlands CPCS Telescopic Handler course (A17) courses run over 4 or 5 days. The Foundation training courses are for beginners and those with some experience.
Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS)
Delegates seeking a CPCS course usually have an idea of the category they need, usually being a requirement of the work they are undertaking or about to undertake. If you have any doubts about the qualification/category you need, please speak with your manager or the company you are about to begin work with, as we cannot specify the category you need.
The CPCS covers a large range of plant categories; the Construction Plant Competence Scheme uses both practical and written assessments to ensure you are competent in your chosen category. These assessments are taken at the end of your training.
1. Pass your health, safety & environment test
2. Attend training days in your chosen category
3. At the end of your training, complete your category assessments (assessment fees are included in your course price)
4. Receive your Trained Operator (red) or Competent Operator (blue) card

CPCS Telescopic Handler course (A17) Teaching & Assessment
- 2-3 days training – classroom-based tutorials & practical exercises (2 days for experienced delegates and up to 3 days for non-experienced delegates).
- 1 days assessment – CPCS technical tests
Mandatory Entry Requirements
- The relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment test no more than two years before the course start date.
- Good understanding of spoken & written English
