What interactive activities are there during the Virtual IOSH Managing Safely course?

We use Zoom Polling to provide single-choice or multiple-choice polling questions, Kahoot! Which is a game-based learning platform used to check your understanding of the course information; we also use Zoom breakout rooms allowing delegates to solve problems or complete exercises in smaller groups.

How many modules are there?

There are seven modules in the IOSH Managing safely course syllabus. If you would like to see these in more detail, visit the ‘content’ tab on the IOSH Managing Safely page.

Who should go on an IOSH Manging Safely course?

The course is for line managers across various industry/sector types and provides an understanding of health and safety culture, risk assessments as well as roles and responsibilities.

What does IOSH stand for?

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

What’s is the difference if I take the Virtual course rather than a classroom course ?

The answer is simple no travelling you will have:-

What are online virtual courses ?

Online virtual courses give you the same training as you would receive in a classroom course. The difference is that your trainer is on your screen instead of in front of you in a classroom. The training is live and in real-time with the trainer taking you through the course in the same way as a classroom course. The content and qualification awarded are also the same but the presentation is modified to make the online experience interesting and engaging. Virtual online courses more information click here

What happens if I get a lower than 69% score?

If your score is 69% (24 correct answers out of 30) or less in the final examination, you must attend the full SMSTS course again before you can re-sit the examination.

What happens if I fail the SMSTS exam and trainer review.

If you have passed the trainer’s review and gained between 71%–77% (25 to 27 out of 30) in the examination or achieved the 80% pass rate but failed the safety critical questions, you may re-sit a different examination.

What is the pass mark for the Virtual SMSTS course exam ?

It’s the same as the classroom-based course the examination pass mark is 80% (28 out of 35).

How long does the SMSTS Site Management exam last?

The exam lasts 30 minutes, the first 20 minutes is a closed book exam (which means you can not use any supporting materials, such as the workbook, to help you answer the questions) and in the last 10 minutes of the exam you can look in the ‘Construction Site Safety – The comprehensive guide’ (GE700) publication and the ‘Construction Site Management Delegate Workbook (XA6) (PDF).

What do I have to do to complete the exercise?

You will be given site drawings, multiple scenarios and drawing description/overview that you must complete generally as group exercises. The 4 exercises you must complete consist of:
Exercise 1 – Implementing health and safety legislation.
Exercise 2 – Manager and supervisor responsibilities.
Exercise 3 – Site briefing.
Exercise 4 – Site layout.

What does the trainer review involve ?

The trainer will review your participation using three elements
1. Did you work well as part of the team during the exercise?
2. Have you actively engaged with the course and the group?
3. Have you completed the four exercises?

What happens if I get 67% or Lower score?

If your score is 67% (20 correct answers out of 30) or less in the final examination, you must attend the full SSSTS course again before you can re-sit the examination.

What happens if I fail the SSSTS exam and trainer review.

If you have passed the trainer’s review and gained between 70%–77% (21 to 23 out of 30) in the examination or achieved the 80% pass rate but failed the safety-critical questions, you may re-sit a different examination.

What is the pass mark for SSSTS?

The SSSTS examination pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30).

How long does the SSSTS Supervising Safely exam last?

The exam lasts 30 minutes, the first 20 minutes is a closed book exam (where you can not use any supporting materials to help you answer the questions) and in the last 10 minutes of the exam you are allowed to look in the Construction site supervision (GE706) workbook (PDF).

What do I have to do to complete the toolbox talk?

You must prepare and present a five-minute toolbox talk to the rest of the group.

What do I have to do to complete the exercise?

You must prepare a risk assessment or method statement (or both) and/or provide complete ‘set up’ detail on a relevant drawing for the project.

What does the trainer review involve

The trainer will review your participation using three elements
1. Did you work well as part of the team during the exercise?
2. Have you actively engaged with the course and the group?
3. Have you completed the toolbox talk?
All three elements will be either a pass (yes) or fail (no) and all three elements will need to be given a pass for you to pass this element of the course.

What happens if I fail the IOSH Working Safely assessment?

You can retake a different multi-format assessment paper, this is usually within 20 working days of the original assessment.

Is there a mock exam?

There is one mock exam, normally carried out after module 3. If you would like complete a practise assessment before completing your course, you can by reading our blog here.

What is the pass mark for the assessment (exam)?

The exam is in two parts, Part A, the pass mark is 20 out of 33 & Part B, the pass mark is 10 out of 16, once you completed you must have a total score of 30 or more.

How long does the Working Safely exam last?

The Working Safely assessment allows you 30 minutes to complete your questions. It is a closed book exam, which means that you are not allowed to take any of your course notes or the workbook into the exam to support you in answering the questions.

What happens if I fail the CITB HSA exam?

If you get 24 to 19 marks out of 30 it results in a failure, but you can do a re-sit of the multiple-choice examination, either on the same day or on another course within a 90-day period. If you get 18 marks out of 30 (60%) or less in the examination, you must attend the full HSA course again before you will be allowed to re-sit the examination.

What is the pass mark for the CITB HSA exam?

You must obtain 25 marks out of 30 (83%) or more to pass the examination. There are 25 multiple-choice questions: 20 questions are worth one mark each and 5 questions are worth two marks each.

How long does the CITB HSA exam last?

The exam takes 30 minutes, it is a closed book exam, which means you can not take any supporting materials, like your course notes or workbook, into the exam with you.
