    Overview

    NPORS 360 Excavator training

An NPORS 360 excavator course is a comprehensive training program that aims to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate a 360 excavator safely and efficiently. The course is typically delivered over a period of several days and involves both classroom-based theoretical instruction and hands-on practical training.

Knowledge and skills covered on an NPORS 360 Excavator course will include:

    • The relevant health & safety legislation applicable to operators
    • Components of the machine and their functions
    • Pre-operational checks
    • Practical training of operating the machine including manoeuvring across different terrain
    • How to undertake a variety of excavation tasks

    Course duration

Foundation training courses are for those who have little experience with operating 360 Excavators, and these courses run usually between 5 and 10 days.
Experienced training courses are usually 1-5 days depending on your level of experience and competency.

Should I do a Foundation or Experienced NPORS course?

We realise that you may already have experience with equipment and just need a qualification to support and prove your competency to potential employers and/or contractors. On the other hand, some delegates may be completely new to construction or to a particular category of plant equipment.
We offer courses for both. If you’re experienced you can just take a condensed version of the course and the relevant tests, semi-experienced delegates may prefer a few days training before taking the tests, or you might need to be taught from scratch. We have the course options for you, call our team and we will be able to provide you with a suitable location and date.
If you’re unsure which course to take, speak to our team who can give you more details and help point you towards the course that suits you most.

    Mandatory entry requirements

    • If you are applying for the NPORS CSCS card, you will need to have completed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment test passed no more than two years before the course start date
    • Good understanding of spoken and written English.

If you have any questions about the NPORS 360 Excavator course, please contact a member of our team by phone, speak to us on the chat, or send us an email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Course Content

You will cover the following learning objectives on your NPORS 360 Excavator course:

    • Acquire a basic understanding of the industry, as well as the hazards and responsibilities associated with operating plant machinery
    • Health and safety legislation, as it applies to Plant Operators.
    • Develop a working knowledge of the manufacturer's manual for the specific machine to be used
    • Identifying and explain the functions of the major components of the plant, including steering, driving, and braking controls of the machine
    • Know how to recognise and maintain appropriate PPE used when operating an excavator
    • Perform all required pre-operation checks in compliance with the manufacturer's and legal requirements
    • Know how to safely mount and dismount the machine
    • How to start and stop the engine, as well as safely moving the machine and bringing it to a stop
    • Set up the machine for travel and safely manoeuvring it across different terrains, in open and confined areas
    • Perform all necessary safety checks at the work site
    • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and configure it for excavation tasks
    • Complete excavation tasks, such as loading materials onto transport vehicles or into containers
    • Restore excavation sites, grading, and levelling the ground
    • Attaching and removing additional equipment
    • Carry out all shutdown procedures and procedures necessary for the end of the working day

    Assessment

You will take both a theory and practical assessment for your NPORS 360 Excavator training.
You will take a theory assessment, which is made up of open questions and multiple choice questions. You need to achieve 80% to pass the standard set for the theory test.
The practical assessment typically involves you demonstrating your ability to safely and efficiently operate the excavator. The assessor will evaluate how you carry out a range of tasks, such as setting up the machine, manoeuvring it across different terrains, and performing excavation or lifting operations. You will also be observed on how you follow health and safety regulations and correctly use personal protective equipment.

    Course Details

What happens on a NPORS Course?

The flexibility of NPORS qualifications means that a course can run for 1 day up to 10 days. This will vary depending on experience and competency.

    • Novice or foundation courses are for those who have no or very little training on 360 excavators. These courses typically run for 10 days and you will cover everything you need to know to operate an excavator safely and efficiently. Your assessment will also be completed on the last day of your course.
    • Experienced training courses are a condensed version of the full course, as you will be expected to have had plenty of experience of operating a 360 excavator but have no formal qualification. These courses are usually between 1 and 3 days.
