What’s a Virtual Health and Safety Awareness Course?

CITB accredited training providers can offer CITB courses remotely via online meeting platforms like Zoom. That means you can now attend an online Health and Safety Awareness course that goes towards getting your CSCS labourers card.

The CITB Health and Safety Awareness Course is an ideal starting point for those who have entered or are about to enter the world of construction. Most major contractors will not allow people to work on site unless they have a CSCS card. This is because it is proof that you have reached a certain standard and level of awareness with regards to health and safety on construction sites.

A virtual/remote course mirrors a classroom course, but instead of being in the same classroom as your trainer and other delegates, you are in an online meeting. You will have a live trainer who will lead the course and you will be able to ask any questions throughout. You have live classmates who you work with during activities, and you complete the same assessment as you would in a classroom.

We have worked hard to adapt our virtual courses, so although you are following the same syllabus, we have different activities throughout the day that are better suited to the online course. Some of these activities include group discussions, online quizzes and games, and online hazard spotting exercises.

What do I need to attend a virtual Health and Safety Awareness course?

All you need is a computer, laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone. If you have a computer or laptop but no camera and microphone you can use the camera and microphone on your smartphone and our team can help you set that up in minutes.

You’ll be sent a link and meeting details to your Zoom meeting room a few days before your course. Click the link 15 minutes before your session is due to start, and you’ll be in the meeting room. Easy as that!

If you have any concerns about joining the meeting or joining a virtual course, get in touch and set up a test call. A member of our support team will call you and explain how to join the meeting on Zoom. They’ll then show you how the platform works and what you can expect, how you’ll see the presentation, for example, and how you can ask questions or get the trainers attention during your course.

Why choose virtual?

There are plenty of reasons why a virtual CITB course might be perfect for you:

  • Lower price, often virtual courses cost less
  • No travel costs or travel time
  • Attend the course from the comfort of your own home or office
