The 1 day Temporary Works Supervisor course will provide you with the knowledge of the Temporary Works Supervisor role. Including, risk management of temporary works and the legal duties of a Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS).

Temporary Works Supervisor overview

The course is accredited by CITB who have developed the syllabus to promote safer temporary works on sites around the UK. The CITB’s ultimate goal with the TWS course is to raise standards across the industry and allow a transferable knowledge base between employers.

Who is the course for?

Those who are in, or about to be in, the temporary works supervisor role.

Temporary Works Supervisor role

The temporary works supervisor will work closely with the temporary works coordinator (TWC). The supervisor is generally responsible for:

  • Supervision and checking
  • Issuing load/unload permits
  • Assisting the temporary works coordinator, often the TWC will discharge some of their responsibilities to the supervisor

Course Content

Aims

To ensure that all those given temporary works supervisory responsibilities understand:

  • the need for and duties of a TWS
  • the roles of others
  • the BS 5975 in respect of the role
  • the importance of the ‘4Cs: communication, co-ordination, co-operation and competency
  • the need for risk management

Objectives

At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • understand the duties of a TWS and roles of others
  • have detailed knowledge and understanding of BS 5975
  • understand how to manage risk
  • implement the ‘4C’s’ effectively in the workplace

Course notes/materials

During your course you’ll receive a course notes workbook. It’ll contain useful information to be used during and after the course such as:

  • Historical background
  • Key Bragg recommendations
  • Risk management philosophy
  • Examples of failure
  • The 3 Ps, 4 Cs and ERIC
  • Contract and statute and their impact on your role

Course Details

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although you will need a good understanding of spoken and written English. If you have any worries or concerns in these areas please call or chat with us online.

Assessment

Assessment will be by multiple choice question paper at the end of the course. Delegates are also expected to be interactive during the course.

The assessment is made up of 25 multiple choice questions, set by the CITB. You have 30 minutes to complete the assessment. It is an open book, and the examination pass mark is 72%.

Duration

The course is designed to be completed in one day (7 hours), in addition to completing the end of course assessment it is a requirement to attend the full day to pass.
