    Overview

    The 1 day Temporary Works General Awareness course will provide you with the awareness and knowledge of temporary works. Including what constitutes temporary works, how they are used, safety important, common issues and more.

    Temporary Works Awareness overview

    The course is accredited by CITB who have developed the syllabus to promote safer temporary works on sites around the UK. The CITB’s goal is to raise awareness of temporary works and their dangers throughout the industry. Improving safety standards for all.

    Who is the course for?

    The course is designed for those in a temporary works role, but not those in the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Supervisor (TWS) role. It’d be ideal for anyone that works closely with temporary works to raise awareness of the dangers involved.

    Examples of people who might be ideal for the course include:

    • Those involved in the temporary works process but not a TWC or TWS
    • Directors, managers, site supervisors, estimators, planners, procurement, commercial managers, project leads
    • Health and safety professionals
    • Delegates undertaking a graduate development programme
    • Those not directly from a civil engineering background or building sectors but may use temporary works. Mechanical and electrical contractors, local authority building maintenance, utility companies etc
    • Delegates who have come into the construction industry from other industries
    • Foreign contractors who may wish to learn from UK best practice
    • Permanent works designers
    • People from the training industry
    • Salespeople from equipment or plant suppliers

    Course Content

    Aims

    To give a general awareness of temporary works and to understand:

    • what is deemed temporary works
    • how temporary works are used
    • the role of safety in temporary works
    • common issues associated with temporary works
    • the management processes

    Objectives

    At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

    • understand what constitutes temporary works
    • know how temporary works are used
    • understand the importance of safety and how to overcome common issues
    • understand the need for management processes

    Course Details

    Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although you will need a good understanding of spoken and written English. If you have any worries or concerns in these areas please call or chat with us online.

    The course assumes limited or no previous knowledge of temporary works.

    Assessment

    Assessment will be by multiple choice question paper at the end of the course. Delegates are also expected to be interactive during the course.

    The assessment is made up of 12 multiple choice questions, set by the CITB. You have 15 minutes to complete the assessment. It is an open book, and the examination pass mark is 75%.

    Duration

    The course is designed to be completed in one day (7.5 hours), in addition to completing the end of course assessment it is a requirement to attend the full day to pass.

    What ID can I use for my CITB course?

    When you attend a CITB Site Safety Plus course you need provide a form of photographic ID such as:

    • Passport: A valid passport of any nationality of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date
    • Photo Card Driving Licence: A valid UK only driving licence with a photograph of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date
    • Non UK Driving Licence: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date
    • Work ID Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date (if applicable) and refer to the delegates present employer
    • EU Country ID Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must be no more than 6 months out of date
    • CITB Scheme Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must be no more than 6 months out of date. Acceptable CITB Scheme cards include CSCS, CPCS, CISRS
    • Student ID Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate, as well as year of study (e.g. 2018/2019 or expiration date and name of the institution of study) – must be no more than 6 months out of date
    • Citizen Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate and be no more than 6 months out of date
    • Proof of Age Card: Cards issued nationally in the UK by VALIDATE UK, bearing the PASS hologram bearing a photograph of the delegate
    • Young Scots Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must be no more than 6 months out of date
    • British Armed Forces Card/Veterans Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate and for an employee or former employee of the Armed Forces only (not a dependent or spouse) – must be no more than 6 months out of date

    If a delegate does not hold any of the above ID documents they will need to complete a waiver form.
