What is the SMSTS Course?
The SMSTS course, or Site Management Safety Training Scheme, will teach you everything you will need to know about the responsibilities and legal obligations when it comes to managing the safety of a construction site. On completion of your course, you will have an extensive understanding of the health and safety code of practice and how to enforce it on site.
What will I learn on the SMSTS Course?
You will cover the following content on the CITB SMSTS course:
- Health and safety management: legal responsibilities, risk assessment, hazard identification and control measures
- Compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations
- Mitigating risks by implementing control measures and strategies and monitoring how effective they are
- How to communicate effectively as a leader and conduct 'toolbox talks'
- Construction site planning and organisation
- Accident prevention and emergency procedures on site

Who is the SMSTS Course for?
The SMSTS course is aimed at those who are already in or aspire to be in managerial roles or more senior roles within their construction organisation. It is also beneficial for a range of professionals that are regularly within a construction environment such as engineers, architects and quantity surveyors who may have health and safety responsibilities related to health and safety.
Course duration
The CITB SSSTS Course is a 5-day course.
