Who is SA023 - Banksman Ground Support Person training for?
The SA023 - Banksman Ground Support Person is a one day course and provides delegates with the essential foundation in Banksman or Ground Support for Elevating Platforms (EP) and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs). This course is suitable for those who already work in or are looking to work in a construction or utilities environment.
What will you learn?
The SA023 accreditation covers the requirements for providing Ground Support / Banksman duties for an EP or MEWP operator and sets out the skills, knowledge and understanding to support the operator to manoeuvre an EP or an MEWP in a restricted space and working at height.
It provides learners with the skills and knowledge of the hazards and potential risks of using an EP or an MEWP. This accreditation tests learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding of dangers associated with these types of machines. The actual vehicles/machines may vary depending on the type, size and manufacture of the vehicle/machine and associated control equipment; therefore, the accreditation is generic and provides the overall safety requirements. The actual operation should be in line with the manufacture’s operator handbook, and the user should be trained to use the specific vehicle/machine.
Streetworks
Please be aware the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) requires at least one person on-site to hold a Street Works card to work on the highway.
This Smart Awards accreditation is based on a pre-requisite that any work on the highway requires appropriate Street Works accreditation to be held by an individual working on site and that this individual is qualified to check that the planned provision of footways, traffic lanes and safety zones determined by the site survey meets with the requirements of the site location and approved procedures and practices required by the NRSWA 1991.
Some companies’ policies may vary where more than one person on site must hold a valid Street Works card.
