This training course provides delegates with a fundamental understanding of cabling media and the basic principles that lie behind communications cabling and the basic workings of a network cabling system are explored. The applications that harness communications cabling in a modern cabling system are also examined, providing a valuable insight into communications cabling and other media. The course looks at the different types of copper cabling media including Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat6a and other high bandwidth copper cabling systems. In addition, the course also takes a look at optical fibre media, otherwise known as fibre optic cabling, to include a summary of single mode (sm) and multimode (mm). As well as common communications cabling definitions and current communications cabling standards, this course gives delegates a comprehensive guide to communications cabling.

  • Introduction to communications cabling
  • Health and Safety

Do I need to take unit 1 of the fibre course?

Unit 1 is seen as an introduction to data cabling, and many engineers with previous experience would rather not have to take it and cover old ground. The unit isn’t mandatory, however, if you would like to achieve the full award you must take unit 1.

Who is the fibre course suitable for?

This course is suitable for data comms engineers, network installers, fibre optic cabling installers and engineers looking to prove their installation skills, and professionalism.

Is the course guaranteed to run?

The very nature of these workshops mean we need a minimum number of people for the course to run. This is both to make it financially viable as well as promoting a good environment for learning. Our minimum number of people is 2, which seems low, but we’d rather run the workshop if we can. If for any reason we need to cancel we’ll give you at least 14 days notice.
