This qualification prepares you to undertake and understand the principles, practices and legislation for the Initial verification and Periodic inspection of electrical installations.

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at reasonably experienced electrical inspectors, who are likely currently performing inspection and now looking for a qualification that embraces all the disciplines for initial verification and periodic inspection, as well as carrying out a full range of functional electrical tests on both single and three-phase electrical installations.

Please note: This course expects candidates to have an understanding of electrical theory.

Assessment

To achieve your qualification, you will complete:

  • A multiple-choice examination, and;
  • A practical assignment, which consists of a written examination with short-answer questions and practical inspection and testing tasks (a combined assessment involving both Initial verification and Periodic inspection and testing of an electrical installation, that includes elements of a three-phase electrical installation).

Special Considerations

The delegates can have questions read to them. They can also provide answers verbally which can be written down for them however it has to be recorded on a voice recorder for IQA purposes (HR Training are the only people that do this)

Course Content

The course will include the following;

  • Statutory requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and associated legislation
  • Safe and effective visual inspection of electrical installations
  • Appropriate procedures for achieving effective safe isolation
  • Health and safety requirements when inspecting, testing and reporting on the condition of electrical installations
  • Selection of the appropriate items to be checked during the inspection process
  • IP classification of electrical equipment
  • The earth fault loop paths of the common earthing systems
  • The appropriate documentation that must be completed, as per BS 7671, to conclude the inspection and testing processes
