    Overview

    The 6 day City and Guilds 2391-51 Level 3 Award in Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations was brought in by City and Guilds to replace the 2395 qualification.

    Who is the course for?

    This qualification will significantly benefit practising electricians and electrical engineers who wish to provide evidence that they have a thorough understanding of inspection and testing. It also regarded as a requirement for competent persons’ scheme provider’s enrolment.

    Assessment

    To achieve your qualification you will be assessed through:

    • A 90 minute multiple choice exam (40 questions)
    • A written examination with 4 short answer questions
    • A 2 hour practical assignment of a full periodic inspection and test of a three-phase electrical installation, including completion of the appropriate documentation.

    There are no prerequisites to attend this course, however, it is expected that you should have some electrical experience or knowledge, preferably in the process of initial verification and testing of a single and three-phase electrical installation.

    Special Considerations

    The delegates can have questions read to them. They can also provide answers verbally which can be written down for them however it has to be recorded on a voice recorder for IQA purposes (HR Training are the only people that do this)

    Course Content

    The associated training sessions will involve discussion of the following formal Learner Outcomes:

    • Outcome 1: Understand the requirements for Periodic inspection and testing
    • Outcome 2: Understand safety management procedures when undertaking Periodic inspection and testing
    • Outcome 3: Understand the requirements for the Periodic inspection of an electrical installation
    • Outcome 4: Understand the requirements for testing electrical installations during Periodic inspection and test
    • Outcome 5: Perform Periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations

    Reference will be made to related publications; including BS 7671, IET Guidance Note 3, and IET On-site Guide, and it is therefore anticipated that candidates are aware and understand the navigation of these publications.
